Auburn Church Update

Good afternoon! Just getting back from a lunch at Longhorn (Cheesesteak, fries and sweet tea...YUM) and I thought I'd give you the latest update from Auburn Church. Things are progressing well and here are a few stories that we are hearing from attenders.

We started a new series entitled "iMarriage" this past Sunday. The premise behind the series is that leading up to our wedding day all of us have a box of desires, wishes and dreams about our marriage. However, sometime after "I do" those desires turn into expectations, turning the covenant of marriage into a contract. I will if she does this...I won't because he didn't. Marriage turns into a debt-debtor relationship and the first thing to go is intimacy. But it doesn't have to be this way. Over the next two series, Andy will unpack what God has to say about marriage.

Sunday night, I received this email from a first-time visitor::

We've attended a local church and tried to get involved but it has been more of a struggle than a peace. I found out about Auburn Church about 2 months ago online while doing a search for local churches in Auburn. Sunday's message was very timely, even though we just celebrated 19 years on the 13th of this month, we realized that we had some of the debt -debtor relationship happening that we were able to begin to discuss of our ride home yesterday. What's even more important, we both had that "knowing" that we believe that we could possibly call Auburn Church home and plug in.

Turbo groups are wrapping up over the next couple of weeks. Turbo groups are a small taste of what group life will look and feel like at Auburn Church. We had six groups including three singles/college groups and three married groups. From our small groups, we had four new people involved in Strategic Service this past Sunday. It was amazing to see their excitement about serving for the first time. One guy whose in my small group said that we made his day allowing him to serve on the parking team. He was genuinely having fun making the first touch with people as they arrived at Auburn Church.

We have also begun brainstorming about a more permanent location. The Marriott at Grand National has been fantastic and the staff have been so great. However, with hopes of going to every week, the cost would average $8000-10,000 a month just for conference space. There are several opportunities that we are making the initial contact about and we have no doubts that God has the right location for Auburn Church in the works. If you have any contacts, leads or ideas for locations in the Auburn-Opelika area, please feel free to pass them along.
